However, the response to Smith's insistence the prayer be "done over"the Christian way was met with a half-hearted response. Only about half the House joined in the "do-over" prayer, and the issue ignited some in the House, including a traditional Navajo member, to call out Smith as being flat out wrong for criticizing Mendez' prayer.
