Europe's Last Witch Pardoned By State

THE last witch executed in Europe was a victim of "judicial murder" more than 200 years ago, the government of the Swiss canton of Glarus said yesterday.

The decision to exonerate Anna Goeldi, executed in 1782, came after a long debate in the Swiss state. It was initially blocked by local authorities and the Protestant Church.
